GETTING STARTED

What is Vūsic?

Vūsic connects a sheet music file to a recording of the same piece.

Once connected, the score scrolls automatically as the music plays.

You can loop any passage, slow it to half speed, annotate the score,

and practice with the built-in metronome and guitar tuner — on your

Mac, iPad, or iPhone, all in sync through iCloud.

Adding your first song

1. Tap or click the + button in the library sidebar.

2. A file browser opens. Choose your sheet music file (PDF or image).

3. The sheet music appears in the right pane. Drop or browse for your

recording (MOV, MP4, M4V, MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, or FLAC).

4. Both files appear in their panes. Tap Launch (the Vūsic icon) to

   open the workspace.

5. The song is saved to your library automatically.

Supported file formats

Sheet music: PDF, PNG, JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, WebP

Recordings: MOV, MP4, M4V video — MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, FLAC audio

TIME ANCHORS — syncing score to sound

Time anchors are the pins that connect a spot on the score to a

moment in the recording. Once a few are placed, the sheet follows

the music automatically.

Placing a time anchor

1. Play the recording and pause at the moment a new section begins.

2. Tap the corresponding spot on the sheet music.

3. A small dot appears on the score and a marker on the timeline.

4. Repeat for three or more moments — more anchors means smoother,

   more accurate scrolling.

Tips

• One anchor per page turn is the minimum; one per line is ideal.

• You can drag an anchor dot on the score to reposition it.

• Long-press an anchor to delete it.

• The First-Note Detection tool (wand icon) finds the first audible

note automatically and places an anchor there for you.

LOOPING

Sheet loop (purple)

1. Tap the loop icon in the toolbar to enter loop-drawing mode.

2. Drag a box over the passage you want to loop on the score.

3. The purple loop box appears. Playback automatically repeats

between the start and end anchors inside the box.

4. Drag the box edges to resize. Tap outside to exit loop mode.

5. Tap the × on the loop bubble to cancel the loop.

Audio loop (teal)

1. Tap the audio loop icon in the toolbar.

2. Two handles appear on the timeline. Drag them to set the start

and end points of the loop region.

3. Playback repeats between the handles.

4. Tap the × on the loop bubble to cancel.

Speed control

Both loop bubbles include a speed selector: ½× slows playback to

half speed without changing pitch. Use this to practice difficult

passages at a manageable tempo.

BOOKMARKS

Bookmarks are colored jump points you place on the score.

Adding a bookmark

1. Tap the bookmark icon in the header strip (top right of the score).

2. Tap the spot on the score where you want the bookmark.

3. A numbered color chip appears in the header strip.

Jumping to a bookmark

• Tap any numbered chip in the header strip to scroll the score there

  instantly.

Removing a bookmark

• Right-click (Mac) or long-press (iPad/iPhone) a chip, then choose

  Remove.

Up to ten bookmarks per song are supported.

MUSIC BOOK

The music book shows two pages side by side in a separate window —

useful for reading ahead or seeing a full spread.

Opening the music book

• Mac/iPad: tap the book icon in the sheet music toolbar.

The book opens in its own resizable window.

• The book stays in sync with the main score view.

Turning pages

• Tap the left or right edge of either page.

• Use a Bluetooth page-turner pedal (see Pedals below).

• Left/right arrow keys on a connected keyboard.

Hiding pages you don't need

1. In the music book, long-press any page.

2. Choose "Hide Page." The page is removed from the spread.

3. To restore hidden pages: tap the eye icon in the book toolbar

   and toggle pages back on.

ANNOTATIONS

Draw, highlight, and erase directly on the score.

1. Tap the pencil icon in the sheet music toolbar.

2. Choose a color and draw on the score with your finger or Apple

   Pencil.

3. Tap the eraser to remove marks.

4. Tap the pencil icon again to exit annotation mode.

Annotations are saved automatically and sync to all your devices.

REPEAT AND CODA NAVIGATION

Navigation marks let you jump between sections — useful for pieces

with repeats, D.S., D.C., Coda, and Segno.

1. Tap the navigation marks icon (flag) in the toolbar.

2. The marks bar appears. Tap a mark type (Segno, Coda, Fine, etc.).

3. Tap the spot on the score where that mark belongs.

4. During playback, tapping a mark jumps the score to that section.

TIMELINE TAGS

Tags mark rehearsal letters, form sections, or personal notes on the

timeline below the recording.

1. Pause playback at the moment you want to tag.

2. Tap the tag icon (label) in the toolbar.

3. Type a short label (A, B, Verse, Chorus, etc.) and confirm.

4. The tag appears on the timeline. Tap it to jump to that moment.

METRONOME

1. Tap the metronome icon in the toolbar.

2. Set the tempo using + / − or tap the BPM field and type a number.

3. Tap the play button in the metronome panel to start the click.

4. Beat one of each bar is accented.

5. Tap the metronome icon again to close the panel.

TUNER

1. Tap the tuner icon in the toolbar.

On Mac, the tuner opens in its own floating window.

2. Pluck a string. The tuner shows the nearest note name and how many

cents sharp or flat you are.

3. Green means in tune. Red/orange means adjust the tuning peg.

4. The microphone is used only while the tuner panel is open.

iOS and macOS ask for permission the first time.

PAGE-TURNER PEDALS

Bluetooth page-turner pedals (such as the AirTurn DUO or PageFlip

Firefly) work with Vūsic in keyboard mode.

Setup

1. Put the pedal into keyboard mode (see your pedal's manual —

usually a switch or button combination).

2. Pair the pedal with your device via Bluetooth in Settings.

3. Open Vūsic. The pedal's buttons now turn pages in the music book

and scroll the sheet music view.

No in-app setup is required — Vūsic responds to the pedal's keyboard

events automatically.

ICLOUD SYNC

Vūsic keeps your library, time anchors, loops, bookmarks, tags, and

annotations in your personal iCloud account so they follow you

between devices.

Requirements

• Sign in to the same Apple Account on all your devices.

• iCloud Drive must be enabled (Settings → [your name] → iCloud →

  iCloud Drive → On).

Adding a song on one device and opening it on another

1. Add the song on your Mac (or iPad).

2. On your iPhone (or iPad), open Vūsic. The song appears in the

library with a cloud download arrow next to it.

3. Tap the arrow. A progress ring shows the download.

4. When the ring completes, the song opens automatically.

If a song shows a cloud arrow but won't download

• Check that both devices are on Wi-Fi or have a cellular connection.

• Make sure iCloud Drive is not paused (Settings → [your name] →

  iCloud → Pause).

• Delete the song from the library and re-add it on the source device.

UNLOCKING VŪSIC (IN-APP PURCHASE)

Your first song is free. To add a second song and build an unlimited

library, purchase Unlock Vūsic once.

How to purchase

1. Tap + to add a second song. The unlock screen appears.

2. Tap "Unlock — $9.99" (or your local price).

3. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your Apple Account password.

4. The unlock is applied immediately.

Restoring a previous purchase

If you reinstall the app or switch devices:

1. Tap + to open the unlock screen.

2. Tap "Restore Purchase" at the bottom.

3. The unlock is restored at no charge.

The purchase is a one-time, permanent unlock shared across all your

devices on the same Apple Account.

TROUBLESHOOTING

The sheet music doesn't scroll during playback

• Make sure at least two time anchors are placed. One anchor is not

enough to define a range for scrolling.

• Check that the anchors are placed in order (earlier in the music =

  earlier on the timeline).

• Try adding an anchor near the very beginning and one near the end.

The recording won't load / shows "Couldn't Open File"

• The file format may not be supported. Vūsic supports MOV, MP4, M4V,

MP3, M4A, WAV, AIFF, and FLAC. Other formats (AAC standalone,

  WMA, OGG) are not supported.

• If the file is in iCloud and not yet downloaded, tap the download

arrow next to the song in the library and wait for it to complete.

The tuner doesn't hear my instrument

• Check that Vūsic has microphone permission: Settings → Privacy &

  Security → Microphone → Vūsic → On.

• Make sure no other app is using the microphone at the same time.

A song is duplicated in the library

• This can happen if the same file was imported twice under slightly

different names. Delete the duplicate by swiping left on it in the

library (iPhone/iPad) or right-clicking (Mac) and choosing Remove.

The app crashed or something isn't working as expected

• Force-quit the app and relaunch: on iPhone/iPad, swipe up from the

bottom and swipe Vūsic away; on Mac, ⌘Q and reopen.

• If the problem persists, email jaybee@formaticsllc.com with your

device model and iOS/macOS version. A screenshot or screen

  recording is very helpful.
